When administrative-technical employees leave, their ETH services expire. This applies to ETH members who have solely administrative-technical employment (i.e. for whom there is no active enrolment, no current lecturing period and no other employment in the scientific area). For these administrative-technical employees, the blocking of all services (incl. mailbox service) and the deletion of the forwardings (“forwards”) will take place at the same time as their departure.
For students, lecturers and academic staff, these services will continue to exist for 180 days after leaving.
Without the ETH user account you can no longer access the ETH network, your NAS Home Directory, your mapped drives from home and you will not be able to use your email account for mailing.
If for some reason, notwithstanding departure from ETH, service extension is necessary, a guest account must be created. Please ask your host to contact us.
On termination of employment, of studies or in case of non-renewal by ETH, users are obliged to remove all software licenses from their personal computers. All copies must be destroyed and may not be used any more. Under no circumstances may software be transferred to third parties. Commercial use is basically prohibited. Licenses remain the property of ETH Zurich at all times and are not transferred to the end user.
In case of transfer of computer equipment the chair is responsible for ensuring that no data or programs can be accessed by unauthorized persons.
Software may not be sold or donated externally as a general rule.
IT devices may be sold or given away externally three years after procurement at the earliest.
(Exceptions must be approved by the Director of IT Services)
For the sale of hardware the following guidelines apply:
- After 1 year: 80% of original cost
- After 2 years: 50% of original cost
- After 3 years: 10% of original cost
- After 4 years: Flat rate of CHF 100 .– for computer systems including keyboard, individual peripherals (monitors) will be issued for CHF 50 .–
